Kweli Educational Enterprises Mission Statement:
The mission of Kweli Educational Enterprises, a citadel of pedagogical innovation, is to confront educational inequity by promoting learning from a focus on a human-progress foundation through a vital system distinguished by: • ‘Human-progress’ asserts a single forward-looking evidence-based narrative of cultural diversity and synthesis • A human values canon • Community-centered concepts • Developing entertaining learning experiences (curricula) • Immersive storytelling • Healing historical traumas. Beliefs: We believe that • There is a single human race with a common origin • The substantive diversity in humanity is cultural, not biological • There is an ongoing and emergent history of diverse human culture and ethnicity • All humans have intrinsic value • Ethnic diversity strengthens the human family • Cultural learning skills are critical in a global society • Music has universal value • Education is a community process • Equitable access to knowledge and learning technologies is a human right • Shared experiences are essential to cross-ethnic cohesion • The potential of cognitive plasticity is vast and unknown. Parameters: • We will practice Sankofa • We will adhere to a universal human ethics canon • We will rely on evidenced-based reasoning • We will make all decisions in the interest of the communities we serve • We will support endeavors aimed at bridging diverse communities and reconciling divergent ideologies • We believe historical content is processed through cultural knowledge.
Dr. Arnett Duncan is an educator, social scientist, and curriculum developer with 40 years of professional experience. He is an award-winning professor who has taught college, high school, and middle school. In 2005, Dr. Duncan started Kweli Educational Enterprises, Inc., a non-profit corporation. He is a community education leader with successful grassroots initiatives addressing cross-ethnic solidarity and the sociology of community-based economic development. Dr. Duncan served the community in youth ministry for ten years. Since 2013, the Sankofa Project (SP) has been KEE's seminal commitment to community-based education. SP is a forum for multi-media, forward-looking content bringing the most pertinent evidence-based information, not presented in mainstream places, to out-of-the-mainstream spaces.
Kweli is a Swahili word meaning Truth.
